UFC Vegas 72: Who is Jamey-Lyn Horth?
Who is UFC Vegas 72 fighter Jamey-Lyn Horth?
Undefeated Jamey-Lyn Horth was the Legacy Fighting Alliance's women's flyweight champion before getting a call from the UFC. The 33-year-old from Canada only has five professional fights but has finished every one of them before the final bell. Horth will take on Dana White's Contender Series winner Hailey Cowan, making it the debuts for both women.
Horth went undefeated as an amateur, her first two fights coming against current UFC women's strawweight Loopy Godinez, and is no stranger to championship belts. Horth won smaller promotion's Battlefield Fight League's flyweight championship against current Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship fighter Jade Masson-Wong before signing with LFA.
Jamey-Lyn Horth will fight Hailey Cowan after Cowan missed weight
Horth would finish Mayra Cantuaria by submission in the third round to claim LFA's flyweight title and was scheduled to face former champion Sabina Mazo after her release from the UFC after an unsuccessful three-year run, but the bout was canceled and Horth wound up signing with the UFC.
Cowan was awarded a contract last season on DWCS after a split-decision win against Claudia Leite and has been trying to make her UFC debut since February. Cowan has been on the UFC's radar for years while fighting for Legacy Fighting Alliance and Invicta Fighting Championships before getting the call for DWCS. Cowan fights at bantamweight and went undefeated as an amateur before going pro in 2018.
Signing with LFA, Cowan lost her first professional fight to current UFC flyweight Victoria Leonardo. Cowan would go on a five-fight win streak, which included three finishes and a highlight-reel head kick knockout of Jessica Sotack at LFA 55. Cowan signed with Invicta for one fight and then went on to win a contract on DWCS. Cowan has been scheduled to fight Ailin Perez and Tamires Vidal, but both fights were canceled during fight week due to illness and injuries.
Horth will be moving up to bantamweight to face Cowan, who will hold the height and reach advantage in what will most likely be a striking battle. The two LFA vets will kick off the prelims at UFC Vegas 72.
