The UFC's second week in a row inside the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, sees a pair of well-known bantamweight prospects look to climb up the rankings in what promises to be a barnburner of a main event. The no.8 ranked 135-pounder Song Yadong (19-6-1 (1NC)) takes on the high flying no.10 ranked Ricky Simón (20-3) in a clash that will place either men on the peripheries of a title shot with a win.
This bout was not what was expected to headline UFC Vegas 72 on the 29th of April. We were meant to see a pair of lightweights in a similar situation meet for a chance at a top five fighter. Arman Tsarukyan and Renato Mocaino were only two weeks out from their clash before Moicano was forced to withdraw due to an injury. Thankfully, the event was saved by making the UFC Vegas 71 co-main event the new headliner, saving the card in the process.
You won't see many fans complaining, The matchup pits one of the most exciting 135-pounders in Song against the man who could be the brightest prospect in a talent-heavy division. Simón will be competing in his first ever UFC main event and hopes to keep his five-fight win streak alive with another dominant performance. Meanwhile, his opponent is looking to recover from a tough loss at the hands of Cory Sandhagen and defend his place amongst the top 10 bantamweights.
