5 UFC fighters who could have played in the NBA
1. Cyril Gane
France’s Cyril “Bon Gamin” Gane is the No. 1 ranked UFC heavyweight and former interim heavyweight champion. His unorthodox Muay Thai style has given almost everyone in the division trouble and makes him one of the toughest puzzles to solve in MMA. When he keeps his distance and dictates the pace, few can keep up.
Gane moves as if he’s trained his whole life, however, he only started Muay Thai in his mid-twenties after an entire youth devoted to soccer and basketball. Gane picked MMA up as a hobby at age twenty-four after a friend convinced him to give it a try.
Since then and under the tutelage of Fernand Lopez from Paris’s MMA Factory, Gane has used his elite ability to become one of MMA’s best heavyweights.
In his spare time, Gane still enjoys hitting slam dunks at his local park and certainly moves like a peak NBA athlete.
Gane has reached a high level in MMA and has achieved a 12-2 record, despite criticism he doesn’t take the sport seriously. He has admitted to not training until he has a fight scheduled. However, this habit hasn’t seemed to hurt him given some of his performances. There’s no telling what Gane can achieve athletically when he puts his dedication toward something.
Despite not being a professional basketball player, Gane has some seriously impressive ball-handling skills. He’d make a perfect small forward on the court and it’s fun to think of him joining the likes of Rudy Gobert as a French NBA star.
