Shannon Ross looks to earn his first UFC win and start the Aussie's night with a W

Shannon Ross (13-7) will be fighting for his UFC career and will put everything on the line to earn his first victory inside the Octagon and first win in almost three years. He draws Jesus Aguilar (8-2) as his opponent for UFC 290 and will be the first Australian fighter out of six to compete on the card.

Ross is on a two-fight losing skid in which on both occasions he has been finished via punches - Dana White's Contender Series 2022: Week 2, and UFC 284. According to BetMGM, the betting odds do not favor him in this flyweight bout but instead Aguilar at (-140). Ross is listed as a slight underdog at (+115) and has been closing the distance considering he started at (+200).

In the head-to-head matchup, Ross has approximately seven years of age on Aguilar and holds the reach and height advantage by a small margin. He also had twice the fight experience and significantly has landed more in his two UFC-related fights than his opponent.

Jesus Aguilar will look for a win and attempt to avoid the hot seat

Aguilar earned his shot at the UFC by earning a contract in Dana's White Contender Series Week 5 last year and did so by submitting his opponent n in the third round. He made his UFC debut earlier this year but the grappler was knocked down and hurt early and succumbed to a submission.

Prior to his first loss in seven years, he was on an eight-fight winning streak that included six stoppages all by submissions. Aguilar is a strong grappler and will look for opportunities to take the fight to the ground and dominate in his world, but he is facing a striker with solid takedown defense who has only been submitted once throughout his career and that was by current UFC fighter, Steve Erceg.

In this flyweight fight both men will look to finish in impressionable fashion, but most importantly win to keep their UFC dreams alive.
