UFC Vegas 74: Who is Jesse Butler?
Who is the debuting Jesse Butler?
The road to the UFC is sometimes not the easiest to travel and for some mixed martial artists, it can be so unforgiving along the way - so much so that they may never make it to the UFC.
Jesse Butler has a chance to showcase that it was the right decision to make the call from UFC matchmakers and have him step in on short notice against Jim Miller.
After his opponents Ludovit Klein and Jared Gordon both pulled out of the UFC Vegas 74 main card fight with Miller, Miller signed the dotted line for the third time against Butler. You have to love the gritty veteran mentality of Miller, who has an impressive UFC record with 24 wins during his 41 fights with the company.
Miller has everything to lose taking a fight against a hungry opponent looking to make a name with the UFC fan base, as a loss to Butler would surely be used as a stepping stone on a budding career. Butler, on the flip side, has nothing to lose and everything to gain with this UFC Vegas 74 main card fight.
Who is Jesse Butler?
Entering the UFC, Butler is on a five-fight winning streak and has gained some slick finishes along the way. Butler has been making a name for himself by building his resume and adding impressive wins in top, credible promotions like the LFA and FURY FC.
It looks like Butler is making a name for himself as a submission expert. Out of his 12 victories, he has locked in eight wins via submission.
The Louisiana native Butler has devastating power in his hands and is just as dangerous on the feet, creating a problem for any opponent who suspects he is a one trick pony with submission attempts. All that power was showcased in his first round dismantling of Masio Fullen at Fury FC 56.
Taking a fight on short notice is very risky and to do it in a debut fight with a renowned company like the UFC says a lot about the mentality and belief that Butler has in himself, to walk into the fire against a guy like Miller.
