UFC Kansas City: Edson Barboza defeated Billy Quarantillo.
Edson Barboza defeated Billy Quarantillo via KO (knee), Round 1 – 2:37 at UFC Kansas City on Saturday, April 15, 2023, live from the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, MO.
"The most important thing, is the crowd. I love to see you guys here. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I train exactly this move for eight weeks... Please someone in front of me in the rankings. Edson Barboza is still alive, I'm in the best shape of my life. The next one will be even better," said Barboza.
Quarantillo immediately went for a takedown but Barboza was able to defend it. The two returned to the middle of the Octagon and traded kicks and strikes. Barboza landed a massive leg but Quarantillo continued to come forward and landed his jab. Quarantillo went for another takedown but could only get Barboza down to one knee before Barboza got back to a standing position.
Quarantillo continued to come forward and pushed Barboza up against the fence. Quarantillo landed a punch and went for a takedown but Barboza landed a knee flush to Quarantillo's face as he came in for the takedown. Instantly, Quarantillo dropped face-first onto the canvas with referee Keith Peterson rushing in and stopping the fight.
Barboza has been a fixture on the UFC roster since making his debut at UFC 123, nearly 13 years ago. During his tenure with the UFC, Barboza collected eight fight-of-night bonuses and two other performance bonuses. The 37-year-old entered Saturday's fight on a two-fight losing streak. With his victory, Barboza improved to 23-11, with 14 knockouts.
Quarantillo won his first three fights inside the UFC Octagon. However, over his last four fights,
Quarantillo has only won twice. In his previous fight, Quarantillo earned a performance of the night for his knockout of Alexander Hernandez at UFC 282. The loss dropped Quarantillo to 17-5.
