The UFC matchmakers wasted no time in replacing Victor Martinez and giving the KO artist Trevor Peek (who earned a Contender Series contract) an exciting test against Jose Mariscal, which could steal the show.
With exciting fight promotions like the LFA and Combate Global, these types of organizations have been gaining momentum and earning a reputation as amazing companies that are producing top tier talent. Fighters are hungry to make a career statement so loud that they earn a famed UFC contract.
Mariscal (better known as Chepe or the Machine Gun) is stepping in on short notice to replace Martinez at UFC Jacksonville. Mariscal will look to continue his three-fight win streak that he has racked up outside of the UFC and has high hopes of keeping it alive inside the Octagon.
Who is Chepe Mariscal?
The debuting Mariscal, who has an MMA record of 13 wins and 6 losses, will take on a very tough opponent in Peek. Peek is the heavy favourite heading into UFC Jacksonville with all of his wins coming by knockout or stoppages due to strikes. Mariscal could steal all of the momentum - and what a debut that would be!
The opportunity is there for Mariscal and should not be tossed aside so easily and disregarded as another Peek victory as Mariscal has wins over UFC veterans Youssef Zalal and Pat Sabbatani. Granted, these wins were outside of the UFC - but the knowledge and confidence he has from those fights, knowing he can compete with such talented fighters is a dangerous mentality to have for any opponent.
They say styles makes fights and for sure there will be fireworks inside the Octagon as these lightweight match ups always seem to set the prelims on fire.
The pressure that Mariscal will face is big, but if he can pass the storm that Peek is known to put on his opponents, he will have a very exciting career in the UFC.
