The UFC is back with another blockbuster pay-per-view. This Saturday, May 6, live from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, UFC 288 brings us a massive bantamweight showdown, and a potential new title contender in the welterweight division.
Long Island native and the UFC's bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling (22-3) will look to make his third title defense when he faces the returning former double champion Henry Cejudo (16-2). The two have long been at each other's throats on social media but now they will finally meet in the cage.
For Sterling, a win could push him way up the bantamweight G.O.A.T rankings and it would easily be the biggest name on his resume. Cejudo on the other hand is looking to prove why he deserves the credit the likes of Khabib Nurmagomedov, George St. Pierre, and Jon Jones receive by picking up a victory in his first fight in three years, and reclaiming his belt.
That is far from it. The co-main event pits the No. 4 ranked welterweight Belal Muhammad (22-3) against the always game No.5 ranked Gilbert Burns (22-5). The two come into it on short notice after the original co-main between Charles Oliveira and Beneil Dariush was scrapped following an injury to Oliveira.
Thankfully, these two warriors were willing to take this spot AND make it a five round fight. Both men will be hoping to prove that their activity, and a win on Saturday, should propel them over Colby Covington in the title picture.
With the pay-per-view just around the corner, UFC 288 is shaping up to be a can't-miss event.
