Matt Frevola defeated Drew Dober in the featured prelim of UFC 288.
Matt Frevola defeated Drew Dober via TKO (strikes), Round 1 – 4:08 at UFC 288 on Saturday, May 6, 2023, live from the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.
"All the respect to Drew, he is a legend. He has amazing fights but it's my time. I'm going for championships. That's the old F-bomb, that's years of training. I'm here. On my best day I can beat anyone in the world. Hey Paddy Pimblett, you absolutely suck. Stop being a bitch and let's fight," said Frevola.
When the fight started, the two fighters quickly moved to the center of the Octagon and started trading strikes. The two continued the high octane output throughout the first round.
For most of the round, Dober operated in the middle of the Octagon, while Frevola enjoyed operating on the outside Dober found success with his left hand, landing several punches to the head and body. Frevola's strikes also did damage, as Dober's nose was bleeding for most of the round.
Near the end of the first round, Frevola landed a big left-right combination. Fervola immediately jumped on top and started reigning down strikes, forcing referee Herb Dean to stop the fight. Dober was not happy about the stoppage and argued with Dean.
Frevola scored two straight knockout victories to earn a spot in the featured preliminary bout. In his last fight, Frevola knocked out Ottman Azaitar in the first round of their UFC 281 fight.
Dober entered New Jersey on a three fight winning streaking and with nine wins in his last 12 fights. In his last six victory, Dober knocked out his oppoennt. In his previous fight, Dober earned fight of the night honors for his knockout of Bobby Green.
