Twitter reacts to shocking Canelo Alvarez vs. Jermell Charlo fight announcement
Just when you thought Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (59-2-2, 39 KOs) was out of surprises, he saves the best for last. The news of him signing a reportedly three-fight deal with Premier Boxing Champions was still fresh on our minds. Reports everywhere pointed towards a September fight against WBC Middleweight champion Jermall Charlo (32-0, 22 KOs). Leave it to Canelo to surprise us all by posting this afternoon a picture of him and the undisputed junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo (35-1-1, 19 KOs) with the title “Undisputed vs. Undisputed.”
This has officially become one of the most anticipated fights of the year and one of the most intriguing. Typically someone moving up two weight classes wouldn’t be received well. This is an exception, as Charlo is the lineal champion at junior middleweight and has shown to take on the most significant challenges. Charlo is coming off of a hand injury that required surgery and delayed his fight with the interim WBO champion Tim Tszyu (23-0, 17 KOs). It looks like Tszyu will have to wait and see what happens next with the WBO, as they have to figure out a way to make things right. For now, boxing fans are in shock but love the idea of Canelo vs. Charlo on September 30 in Las Vegas, NV.
