Julianna Peña out, Irene Aldana in to face Amanda Nunes
By Amy Kaplan
Irene Aldana will fight Amanda Nunes in June after Julianna Peña injury.
Canada's PPV card just got a huge upgrade.
According to UFC president Dana White, Julianna Peña will not fight Amanda Nunes at UFC 289. Instead, Irene Aldana will step up to fight for the title. According to White, Peña broke her ribs, which is why she's no longer able to fight.
Nunes will look to defend her bantamweight tile against Aldana who is on a two fight win streak.
Aldana was gearing up to fight Raquel Pennington in the main event of a fight night card on May 20 but will now fight June 10 instead. There's no word on if Pennington will get a replacement or if the fight will be canceled entirely.
