Is Conor McGregor the worst coach in The Ultimate Fighter history?
When the UFC announced that Conor McGregor would coach against Michael Chandler on The Ultimate Fighter season 31, there was doubt amongst fans about whether or not the Irish superstar would make a great coach.
Throughout the season McGregor has been condemned for his lackluster performances and unprofessional behavior. His lackadaisical methods have resulted in his team falling to 0-7, through seven episodes, so far.
To make matters worse, McGregor has been taking things a little far when sparring with his teammates.
While helping Landon Quinones sharpen his tools, McGregor proceeded to drop Quinones with a brutal left kick to the liver just days before his fight against Jason Knight.
After his team's recent defeat, McGregor was embarrassingly captured asking Dana White what would happen if his team fell 0-8. The boss was stunned and even he didn't know the answer.
Are the fighters on Conor McGregor's team bad?
Many fans have asked this question over the last few weeks. But a team is only as good as their coach. If McGregor isn't giving his fighters the correct training and advice then it will obviously show come the fights, and that is exactly what has happened.
There was skepticism regarding McGregor's coaching capabilities even before the show started because of his massive ego. This was a chance of a lifetime for the fighters on his team, but McGregor has single-handedly destroyed their dreams with his arrogance.
You must also remember that McGregor's team is all prospects, many with much less experience than the team they are up against. They have the cards stacked against them, no matter who is coaching them.
The worst coaches in TUF history
When you think of some of the worst coaches in TUF history, Ken Shamrock and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson spring to mind. McGregor's name will certainly be in the mix of this conversation from now on.
Shamrock was at least able to boast three wins on his 3-10 record in season 3 against Tito Ortiz. In season 10, Rampage would achieve a pair of wins against Rashad Evans' team.
McGregor has one final chance to claim a victory in next week's episode. Otherwise, we will witness TUF history because there has never been a season sweep before.
