Dustin Poirier woke up on Sunday morning and chose violence
By Amy Kaplan
On Saturday night Dustin Poirier was head kicked in oblivion by Justin Gaethje who earned the BMF title in the process at UFC 291.
But he seems unfazed by the loss and woke up bright and early on Sunday morning to tweet at Michael Chandler who called out Gaethje but insulted Poirier in the process.
"Well now [Justin Gaethje] has the BMF belt - he has to defend it against a worthy adversary," Chandler tweeted.
"Shut ya bitchass up," Poirier tweeted at 5:23 am, Salt Lake City time in response. Let's be honest, he probably hadn't even gone to bed yet.
Chandler is no stranger to both Poirier and Gaethje, but he's lost to both. When he fought Gaethje in 2021 he lost via decision after a brutal back and forth war. When he lost to Poirier in 2022 it was via a third round rear-naked choke.
Who will Dustin Poirier fight next?
Chandler is supposed to be fighting Conor McGregor next but McGregor has been dragging his feet getting back in the USADA testing pool and called out Gaethje after his win too.
It's unclear who is next for most of the top of the lightweight division as a lot of rests on when McGregor comes back (if at all) and who the UFC will match up after the Islam Makhachev vs. Charles Oliveira fight in October.
