The BMF belt is back.

Five years ago at a UFC Fight Night event in Arizona, Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje clashed in an epic war that earned Fight of the Year nominations and awards. Now, the pair of lightweights meet once again in the main event of UFC 291 — which takes place at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah — in just the second BMF title fight in UFC history.

The similarities between these two are quite eye-grabbing, with similar success stories and common opponents, as well as winning the interim UFC lightweight championship, shared between them ever since Poirier finished Gaethje in their first meeting. Combine that with their fighting styles, and these two will certainly put on the show tonight.

Poirier has won eight of his last 10 fights, which includes the original win over Gaethje as well as his pair of victories over Conor McGregor. His only two losses in this span were title shots against Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira. Gaethje, meanwhile, has won six of his eight fights since the loss to Poirier, with his two losses in that span also coming in title fights with Nurmagomedov and Oliveira.

The co-main event of the evening will see the light heavyweight debut of former UFC middleweight champion Alex Pereira, as he takes on former light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz.
