The world of MMA prepares to welcome Dana White's Contender Series back into the fold this week. With the new season, new talent will emerge and fight for the opportunity to earn a UFC contract. One particular fighter's name remains unsigned by the UFC, which could be a significant signing.

Igeu 'Smiley' Kabesa is the current reigning and defending EFC featherweight champion and has been at the forefront of the 145-pound division for a number of years. With his wrestling pedigree, Kabesa has amassed a 16-win and 2-loss record over the course of his career to be called one of the greatest fighters on the African continent.

For years now, it's been believed that Kabesa should be competing at a higher level, namely the UFC. With the likes of Dricus du Plessis and Cameron Saaiman both being signed to the promotion, Kabesa would be in good company with fellow South Africans.

There are a number of reasons why Igeu Kabesa should join the top organizations of the world and, at this very moment, the UFC could be the perfect home for 'Smiley'. Here are the top three reasons why the UFC needs to sign Igeu Kabesa sooner rather than later.

3. Igeu Kabesa is a world-class top-level talent

Kabesa's last fight took place in June at EFC 104, and the fight was being hinted at as the champion's potential last match with the promotion, as he looked to pursue international opportunities. In early March 2023, Kabesa was set to be part of week six of the PFL Challenger Series, featuring other featherweights from around the world. That ultimately did not work out due to a delay in obtaining the necessary travel documents and that seemingly has been a recurring issue with Kabesa.

Regardless, it's widely agreed that Kabesa is a ready-made star who is able to carry himself like a star in the public, with fans, as well as with the media. Kabesa has already been carrying himself as a worldwide talent and, as such, would not have a difficult time adjusting to the UFC's publicity requirements. Kabesa is also not one to shy away from speaking his mind and is able to market and promote himself enough to intrigue fight fans.
