A fight card that has seen a fair amount of changes has finally come to fruition. On Saturday, May 20, live from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, a pair of women's strawweight contenders meet for a chance to climb up the rankings and be one step closer to an elusive title shot.
It hasn't all quite come together for the No. 8 ranked Mackenzie Dern (12-3). Once thought of as a potential champion, Dern has had a decent but unspectacular run in her UFC career, going 7-3 in the promotion. She is coming off a majority decision loss to Yan Xionan and will be looking to bounce back with a win over a UFC veteran.
Angela Hill (15-12) has been in the UFC since 2017 and has always been a tough test for anyone who steps in the Octagon with her. It seemed she was on the verge of being cut from the company after suffering a three-fight losing streak but she's bounced back with two consecutive victories to put herself back in the rankings, at number 14.
The card may not look the most exciting with only the main event being a ranked vs. ranked matchup yet this is not an show we should all skip over. Andre Fialho (16-6) welcomes Joaquin Buckley (15-6) to the welterweight division and Michael Johnson (21-18) opens the main card against Diego Ferreira (17-5) in an intriguing lightweight clash.
