UFC 290 results & highlights for Alexander Volkanovski vs. Yair Rodriguez [UPDATED]

A stacked 2023 UFC International Fight Week reaches its apex today when the UFC presents UFC 290 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, featuring a stacked card of two title fights, a retiring legend, a young prospect and so much more.

The main event will see the UFC featherweight championship unified when defending champion Alexander Volkanovski meets interim champion Yair Rodriguez.

This will be Volkanovki's fist fight since falling just short of the UFC lightweight title, losing by decision to Islam Makhachev at UFC 284. This was just the second loss of Volkanovski's career and the first in his UFC run.

Volkanovski won the featherweight title by defeating Max Holloway at UFC 245. Volkanovski has since defended the title against Holloway (twice), Brian Ortega and "The Korean Zombie" Chan Sung Jung.

Rodriguez is 4-2 (1 NC) in his last seven fights, earning five post-fight bonuses in that span. Rodriguez won the interim featherweight title at UFC 284, where he submitted Josh Emmett.

The co-main event will feature Brandon Moreno defending the flyweight championship against Alexandre Pantoja.

Moreno and Pantoja have fought twice previously. The first fight, which is officially listed as an exhibition, took place on The Ultimate Fighter in 2016, with Pantoja winning by submission. Pantoja then defeated Moreno when they met at a UFC Fight Night card in May 2018.

This will be Moreno's first fight since ending his rivalry with Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 283 in January, where he scored a stoppage win to become a two-time flyweight champion. Pantoja most recently fought at UFC 277 last year, scoring a 91-second submission of Alex Perez.

Also featured on the UFC 290 main card will be former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker taking on Dricus du Plessis in a middleweight title eliminator. The main card will also feature a lightweight contenders' fight between Jalin Turner and Dan Hooker, as well as the second UFC appearance of Bo Nickal, who takes on short-notice step-up Val Woodburn.

The prelims will be topped by the retirement of legendary former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler, who was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame jusr a couple of nights ago for his classic UFC 189 title fight with Rory MacDonald. Lawler's final fight will come tonight against Niko Price.
