With his back literally to the wall, Israel Adesanya pulls off a knockout of Alex Pereira to regain the UFC middleweight championship at UFC 287.

Israel Adesanya is winless against Alex Pereira no more. And once again, "The Last Stylebender" is UFC middleweight king.

Adesanya pulled off a second-round knockout of Pereira in the main event of UFC 287 to recapture the UFC middleweight championship.

This served as a rematch to their UFC 281 encounter, which saw Pereira pull off a comeback KO of Adesanya in the fifth round to win the UFC middleweight title. Pereira had also beaten Adesanya twice in kickboxing prior to their days in MMA.

The two started slow, doing some outside kick trading, particularly at the legs. Adesanya kept distance, trying to stay out of the reach of Pereira's power like he did for most of the November fight. The two were closely contested in the opening frame.

The second round saw the two pick up the pace briefly, as Pereira got inside Adesanya and forced a quick, power exchange. Pereira connected multiple times during the round that forced Adesanya's head back.

Adesanya would answer with a couple of combinations, but Pereira buckled him with a low kick and a combination. Pereira went in with a flurry to finish Adesanya off against the cage, when Adesanya landed a one-two and a right hook that dropped Pereira out cold.
