UFC 285: Jon Jones runs through Ciryl Gane for heavyweight championship (Video)
He's back, he's the heavyweight champion, and it may just now be solidified that Jon Jones is the GOAT after submitting Ciryl Gane at UFC 285.
After three years away from the Octagon, Jones is a UFC champion once again β and he's extended his legacy in the process. Some thought that his fight on Saturday with Ciryl Gane would go the distance and perhaps need to be decided on points. There was also a contingency who thought that Jones was in danger of potentially of losing the fight and would be officially rendered irrelevant in UFC cards of the future.
None of that came to pass, and Jones had more than just his opponent in a submission hold on Saturday night.
Jones submitted Ciryl Gane in about two minutes to become the UFC heavyweight champion. To the chagrin of some and joy of others, he's not going anywhere anytime soon.

After an unfortunate kick to Jones's groin in the fight's first moments, the two felt each other out before Jones scored a takedown a minute into the fight.
Jones was able to transition his body into a guillotine attempt on a seated-up Gane, where he scored the submission.
Jones now joins just a handful of fighters to win UFC gold in two weight classes β and specifically joining Randy Couture and former archnemesis Daniel Cormier as the only ones to win titles at light heavyweight and heavyweight.
