Celebrities who train MMA: Kevin James

Most known for his roles on the small screen such as King of Queens, and Kevin Can Wait, Kevin James is a guy who likes to have fun. He is a staple in Hollywood comedies such as Hitch and Paul Blart Mall Cop, but James has a passion outside the acting world. James is a big MMA fan and even trains with some of the best in the business.

A native New Yorker, James can often be found training at Law MMA with the legendary trainer Ray Longo. James has been training for years now in the Long Island gym. At this powerhouse of MMA James can train alongside some of the biggest names in the UFC including former champion Chris Weidman, Al Iaquinta, Aljamain Sterling and many more. James and Wiedman became so close, James offered Wiedman a reoccurring role of his television show Kevin Can Wait.

James took his passion for combat sports and acting and combined them in the 2012 movie Here Comes the Boom. Following his role in the movie, Weidman thinks James could pursue a career as an MMA fighter if he wants.

“Kevin James is unbelievable,” Wiedman said in an interview with Sports Illustrated. “he is very athletic even though he might look very athletic. As an MMA (fighter) he is actually really good. He has been training for about 15 years in MMA, so he has blown me away a few times.”

Another MMA legend that James has a relationship with on and off the screen is Bas Rutten. James trained with Rutten while preparing for his role in Here Comes the Boom. Since then Rutten has become a regular of James’ TV shows.
