Celebrities who train MMA: Jennifer Garner

Jennifer Garner began her film career playing American Sweetheart roles. Her wholesome image is something that the fans fell in love with. Recently Garner has been taking more edgy roles including Peppermint. This type of role requires a certain training regiment and time to perfect fight scenes. For this, Garner began upping her training including MMA training.

Garner was never out of shape and throughout her career, she had worked out on many different types of forms, including boxing. But for the role in Peppermint, she needed inside the cage training that only MMA could provide.

“I’ve been training for a while on this,” Garner told People.com “I did (mixed martial arts) MMA skills, gun skills, knife skills. It was the connection to the physical that made me kind of understand her fight for her daughter.”

Throughout her grueling training, Garner was able to keep that her spirits up and her patented happy face.

For this role, Garner worked with film fight trainer Don Lee. He had high praise for the work and dedication of Garner while training.

“We would train her from 10-2 just doing fight training,” Lee said. “In that period of training that we did, we would start with warming up; we’d jump into boxing, kickboxing, grappling, knife work [or] gun work, then she would go into choreography. Prior to that, I was always amazed, because she’d already done two workouts. She’d already done cardio, and she’d do pilates.”

Not only is Garner an action star of the screen that can kick butt, but she is also a mom of 3. When she is done with training and filming, she can be seen on social media being silly and pretending to have her own cooking show on Instagram.
