Celebrities who train MMA: Mark Ballas
Both boxers and dancers are known for their footwork, that could be what makes boxers take dance lessons and vice versa. It could also be the amazing workout that both entail. Mark Ballas is mostly known for his dancing, as a former member of the show Dancing With the Stars, Ballas has perfected his dancing skills. When not on the dance floor Ballas likes to hit the gym with some MMA training including jiu-jitsu, boxing, and Muay Thai.
Showing off some kickboxing skills, Ballas is very athletic from all the years of dancing. He was also trained on the ground in the past. Ballas attributes his years as a professional dancer to his skills in the ring.
“If you can dance, you can fight,” Ballas said to TMZ.
Ballas had a first-hand, close-up look at MMA training and the benefits when he was paired up with UFC fighter Paige Van Zant for a season on DWTS. While teamed up with Van Zant the pair danced an MMA-inspired dance that impressed the judges and won over the fans.
Ballas has been off Dancing With the Stars since November and has been using his MMA training to supplement his cardio and stay in shape. Perhaps a career in training or fighting could be in the works, certainly his former dance partner Van Zant could help him out.
