Jorge Masvidal says he's not a cheater after Gilbert Burns accused him of greasing at UFC 287.
."..that guy was freaking slippery. That’s an old dog, Miami trick with the lotion, because he was so slippery. Wow," Burns said after the fight (h/t MMA Fighting). When asked to clarify his comments, he doubled down. “One-hundred percent, I do believe [he was greasing]. I know those old tricks those guys do. You know what they do? They wake up on [Saturday] and they take the first shower and they put a lot of lotion on the body."
Now, days removed from the fight Masvidal is firing back at the accusations.
“There’s a commission, there are numerous people backstage besides USADA,” Masvidal told Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour. “I’ve never greased. I’ve never been caught for cheating or anything. Maybe I’m the sweatiest guy he knows, but I’ve never greased. I’ve never put anything on in my life. I’ve never done that in my life.
“Maybe he should blame his technique for being sh*tty and not being able to do anything but just hold. I’ve never cheated. The referee was there touching us constantly and breaking us up, and you’re telling me he couldn’t see that I had grease? He knows the difference between that and sweating.”
Masvidal went on to give examples of how he's maintained integrity throughout his career.
“I’ve never cheated, and I’m not about to cheat. I’ve never even had a point taken away from me in my 50-something pro fights. So for this guy to try to slander my name in my last fight, whatever, bro.," Masvidal said. “It annoys me. I’ve never put grease or Vaseline. I just go out there and compete. I’ve never done steroids. I’ve never missed weight. I feel like I don’t have to cheat to beat any of these motherf*ckers. So it’s just whatever. Let him throw anything.”
