After all the rumors, call-outs and negotiations, the UFC heavyweight championship showdown between current champion Jon Jones and former two-time champion Stipe Miocic is now official.

The two will clash in the main event of UFC 295 on November 11 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Dana White announced the news on Twitter on July 7.

It is believed that this showdown between Jones — arguably considered MMA's G.O.A.T. — and Miocic — considered the UFC's G.O.A.T. at heavyweight — could be Jones's final fight before retirement.

Jones has previously stated he was solely focused on facing Miocic — with, at one point, early rumors circulating that the two could have met in this weekend's UFC 290 main event. But finally, after negotiations between the two parties and the UFC, the fight will happen in the hallowed halls of combat sports' Mecca.

Jones, who was born in New York, and Miocic have never previously fought in New York despite their previous tenures atop the UFC.

Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic UFC heavyweight title bout confirmed for Madison Square Garden this November

After his long tenure at the top of the UFC's light heavyweight division for the better part of the 2010s, Jones finally made his long-awaited move up to heavyweight at UFC 285 in March, quickly submitting Ciryl Gane to become the new UFC heavyweight champion.

Miocic's time with the UFC heavyweight champion originally began at UFC 198 in May 2016, silencing the Brazilian crowd with a knockout of Fabricio Werdum to claim the championship. He'd defend the title against Alistair Overeem, Junior dos Santos and Francis Ngannou before dropping the belt to Daniel Cormier.

Miocic regained the title in a rematch with Cormier and defended the title in their trilogy bout before losing the gold to Ngannou in their second fight at UFC 260.
