Jake Paul: 'Maybe once I knock Nate Diaz out, then he will fight me in the PFL'

Jake Paul had some choice words for Nate Diaz after their press conference which took place earlier today in Dallas, TX.

One of the most anticipated fights in boxing will feature two names famously known for who they are outside of the ring. YouTube star and social media influencer Jake Paul (6-1) returns to the squared circle to face long-time MMA legend Nate Diaz who will be making his pro boxing debut.

This mega event will take place on August 5 at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, TX, on DAZN PPV. The two worlds of social media and MMA will collide, making this one of the most talked about events this summer.

Earlier today, the official press conference kicked off the promotion for the event, which lacked a little sizzle and led to Diaz walking out during the presser. There was more trash-talking on social media than at this presser from Nate Diaz, but it still won’t take away how excited their fanbases will be for this fight.

After the press conference, Paul conducted a Zoom roundtable with a hand full of media members from various outlets. Before asking questions for FanSidedMMA, Paul confirmed during the press conference that he is once again working with International Boxing Hall of Famer ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley. Since reuniting with Mosely, you’d have to believe that Paul quickly identified things he was doing wrong.

Paul told FanSidedMMA, “There was a lot of fundamentals that my old coach was letting me make mistakes on, so going back to the drawing board there. I almost had to go backward to go forward in that sense and re-learn a lot of things. It’s kind of been a process and a struggle. It kind of feels like I’m starting boxing all over again with the fundamentals and basics, but it’s fine.”

Dealing with his first loss was hard for Paul, which is more of a reason to bring in Mosley. “It’s definitely not something that was fun or easy, but I think it was good for me in the long run and made me a stronger man and built a stronger foundation,” said the 26-year-old Paul to the journalist from the L.A. Times.

Paul will be heading back to Puerto Rico for a whole training camp without traveling back and forth, which he sees as an opportunity to focus entirely on the fight. Alongside Paul will be undisputed featherweight champion Amanda Serrano (44-2-1) as she will fight on the card against fellow New Yorker and former champion Heather Hardy (24-2). Paul feels that having Serrano there would force him to be at his best.

With the fight being in August and Paul signing a deal with the PFL in January, announcing his first fight in 2023, I wanted to know the status of his PFL commitment. Paul told FanSidedMMA, “We’ll see what happens. I’m focused on August 5, and maybe once I knock Nate (Diaz) out, then he will fight me in the PFL.”
