Former UFC double champion Conor McGregor has shared a touching tribute to Irish singer Sinéad O'Connor who died at age 56 on Wednesday.

The Irish sports star shared several tweets about his friend expressing that he was "gutted" by the new and raved that she was an incredible woman.

"The world has lost an artist with the voice of an Angel," McGregor wrote. "Ireland has lost an iconic voice and one of our absolute finest, by a long shot. And I have lost a friend. Sinead’s music will live on and continue to inspire! Rest In Peace, Sinead you are home with your son I am sure."

O'Connor famously sang McGregor's walk-out song at UFC 189, the first time UFC president allowed a live performance at a UFC event.

The fight would be the first time (of many) that McGregor would earn a UFC title.

Her death was announced via an official statement which reads, "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad. Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time."

According to the BBC, O'Connor's 17-year-old son Shane died last year of suicide. No cause of death for O'Connor has been announced at press time.
