Conor McGregor delivered a brutal response to Justin Gaethje on Twitter after he sounded off about a potential McGregor title shot.

While Conor McGregor is busy living life and coaching the UFC's latest rendition of The Ultimate Fighter, his fiery rivalry with Justin Gaethje is still burning as bright as ever.

Both fighters have been at odds with one another for years now, and although they have never met inside of the Octagon, it's looking like such a matchup would provide explosive results indeed.

Gaethje recently performed at UFC 286 and gave fans a highly intense battle with Rafael Fiziev. Now, the future is not clear for Gaethje, but one thing is certain. If McGregor were to be granted a title shot off of a victory over Michael Chandler, it would not sit well with the Colorado native at all.

Justin Gaethje scoffs at a potential Conor McGregor title shot, and McGregor responds

In a recent interview with ESPN, Gaethje shared many things, including the fact that a McGregor title shot would even cause him to consider retirement.

"Would I quit if Conor (McGregor) won (against Michael Chandler) and they gave him a title shot?" Gaethje pondered (H/T MMAFighting). "Probably. That's how hurt I would be by the actions of the company I represent. But, that's out of my control. I just really hope that doesn't happen."

"We can imagine a lot of things," Gathje continued. "But, there's the possibility that that's (a Conor McGregor title shot) is the scenario. Which I would be devastated, for sure."

McGregor would not take very kindly to all this, and it wasn't long before the former champion was taking to Twitter to issue a response.

"This braindead fool got a title shot off of one single win, and it was vs chandler," McGregor tweeted. "Yet he will quit and retire if I get the same thing. Classic gathje bird brain. Two Title attempt. No wins."

Things remain to be seen as to whether or not McGregor even defeats Chandler after their season of TUF airs, but one thing is painfully obvious. It seems McGregor and Gaethje have a beef that could use settled in the Octagon, and depending on how events play out, it's a fight we could even possibly see this year or early the next.
