The top two Bellator middleweight contenders will go at it in the main event when Bellator returns to France today for Bellator 296.
The headline attraction for Bellator 296 sees former middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi square off with Fabian Edwards.
This will be Mousasi's first fight since losing the Bellator middleweight title 11 months ago to Johnny Eblen. This broke a four-fight winning streak Mousasi was on, which included winning the then-vacant title against Douglas Lima and successful defenses against John Salter and Austin Vanderford.
Mousasi's first Bellator middleweight title reign began with a first-round TKO of Rafael Carvalho at Bellator 200. He retained against Rory MacDonald before losing the title to Rafael Lovato Jr.
After watching his undefeated record end with back-to-back losses, Edwards has bounced back with a first-round knockout of Lyoto Machida at Bellator 281 and a decision over Charlie Ward at Bellator 287.
The co-main event will see another first-round matchup in the Bellator Lightweight Grand Prix, as former lightweight champ Brent Primus takes on Mansour Barnaoui. The winner will meet defending champion Usman Nurmagomedov in a title fight in the semifinals.
