Bellator 296 sees the return of Bellator MMA to the French capital for yet another action-packed show filled with French talent for the partisan crowd to go absolutely nuts whenever their home favorites make the walk towards the cage.
On Friday, May 12, live from the Accor Arena in Paris, France, former Bellator middleweight champion and experienced veteran Gegard Mousasi (49-8-2) headlines the main event against rising 185-pound contender Fabian Edwards (11-2).
The winner will surely be granted a title shot against Johnny Eblen given that Mousasi occupies the number one spot in the middleweight rankings, with Edwards just behind him at number two. For Mousasi, a win not only gives him his 50th professional victory but a chance to become a three-time middleweight champion if he dethrones Eblen.
This is easily the biggest fight of Edwards’ career. The brother of UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards, Edwards is riding a two-fight win streak which includes a knockout over Lyoto Machida. A victory for him gives him the chance to follow in his brother’s footsteps and become a champion for the very first time in his career.
That’s far from it though. The co-main event sees another quarter-final matchup of the stacked Bellator lightweight grand prix when home favorite Mansour Barnaoui (20-4) takes on the former Bellator lightweight champion Brent Primus (11-3) for a spot in the semis.
