Bellator 294: Levan Chokheli defeated Michael Lombardo.
Levan Chokheli defeated Michael Lombardo via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27), at Bellator 294 on Friday, April 21, 2023, live from the Neal S. Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The action got underway fast with both fighters throwing kicks and punches. Chokheli slipped, falling but quickly getting up. Chokheli landed a pair of knees to the body and then tossed Lombardo to the ground from the clinch. Lombardo and Chokheli continued to trade positioning and takedowns as the round continued. However, neither fighter was able to keep their opponents on the ground. After returning to his feet, Chokheli went for a submission but gave up on it when he realized that he wouldn't be able to submit his opponent.
Lombardo opened the second round with a couple of power punches. Chokheli replied with a combination and just missed connecting with a knee. The two engaged in a clinch, battling for positioning. While Chokheli won the majority of striking exchanges, Lombardo was able to win the majority of grapping exchanges.
Chokheli opened the final round with a powerful leg kick and combination. Lombardo answered right back with his counter but Chokheli's speed allowed his to land more frequently. Chokheli went for a takedown that Lombardo easily defended. Lombardo was able to transition into a top position and started landing punches to the body.
Chokheli entered Bellator 294 with two wins in his previous three fights. In his last fight, Chokheli defeated Roman Faraldo at Bellator 288. Lombardo scored a first round knockout of Mark Lemminger in his last fight at Bellator 289.
With the victory, Chokheli improved to 12-2. While Lombardo dropped to 13-4.
