3. Jon Jones

Jon Jones is one of the most cerebral fighters in the game. He is so well rounded, so calculated in every move he makes. Throughout his career, Jones has used his wrestling in this manner.

Jones was a standout wrestler in high school before becoming an NJCAA national champion at Iowa Central Community College before making the transition to MMA.

In 23 fights in the UFC, Jones has completed 43 takedowns. On the flip side, Jones has only been taken down twice. He has scored multiple takedowns in 13 fights.

Jones is the master at controlling distance and where the fight goes. His timing for takedowns is impeccable. Look at his fight against Cyril Gane. Jones swiftly ducked under a punch to get behind Gane and drag him to the canvas. From there he was able to control Gane from the back and secure the finish via rear naked choke.

Jones has also used his wrestling throughout his career to set up his devastating ground and pound. Just think about what he did to Brandon Vera back in the day.
