These five fights can be considered some of the best flyweight fights in MMA history.

The flyweight division is a 125-pound division that was first introduced to the UFC in 2012. Other promotions such as ONE Championship, Legacy Fighting Alliance, Bellator, and Invicta Fighting Championships would follow suit, though UFC was the first to do so.

A four-man tournament featuring Demetrious Johnson, Joseph Benavidez, Ian McCall, and Yasuhiro Urushitani determined who would be the first UFC flyweight champion, kicking off the division. Johnson ruled that division for years before being traded off to another organization, and there was even talk of disbanding the division in 2018 after a bunch of flyweight fighters was cut from the UFC.

The division survived and with it came a bunch of new talent, for example, this year most flyweight fights don't make it to the final bell, which is rare for fighters of that size and not being known for their power. The women's flyweight division became a thing in 2017 and now you can find flyweights headling the cards of their respected organizations. There are a lot of exciting flyweight fights to catch, but these five are some of the fights that paved the way for the division.
