Worst: Donald Cerrone vs. Justin Gaethje

There really isn’t a bad Gaethje fight. He fights in such a style that more times than not either Gaethje finishes the fight or gets finished himself. Kill or be killed. Not all finishes are the same however and the strange late stoppage is the reason this fight gets the vote as the worst Gaethje fight.

This wasn’t a bad fight at all. It was a great night at the office for Gaethje as he left the octagon relatively unscathed. From the opening bell, Gaethje put the pressure on Cerrone moving forward with chopping leg kicks and thudding punches.

At this point in his career, Cerrone was on the decline. Throughout his career, Cerrone had moments where he just wasn’t there on a given night and this seemed to be one of them as he just never got going inside the octagon.

With just under one minute left in the first round, Gaethje rocks Cerrone with a massive overhand right. From there, Gaethje lands several uppercuts from the clinch that drops Cerrone to the mat on all fours. Gaethje thinking the fight would be stopped as referee Jerin Valel looks to be intervening reluctantly throws another two shots at a badly hurt Cerrone. The referee finally stops the contest and Gaethje shares his displeasure with him.
