UFC Vegas 65: The main event between Derrick Lewis and Sergey Spivak was canceled.

Derrick Lewis and Sergey Spivak were supposed to headline the UFC Vegas 65 on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022, live from the UFC APEX In Las Vegas, NV. The announcement was made mere hours before the main event was supposed to enter the Octagon. Reactions varied following the announcement on the UFC broadcast.

Before the final fight on the preliminary card, play-by-play commentator Brandon Fitzgerald announced that due to a non-COVID, non-weight-cutting illness, Lewis would be unable to compete.

Lewis is one of the most popular fighters on the UFC roster and his fight being canceled was a disappointment for fans as well as fighters. Several fighters wish Lewis a speedy recovery.

Other fighters used the fight cancellation to crack a few jokes. Terrence McKinney and Michael Chiesa joked they could make weight and take the fight. While Niko Price wondered if Derrick Lewis’ balls had gotten too hot, reference Lewis’ infamous post-fight comments.

Fans will have to hope that Lewis can recover soon so that the fight against Spivak can be rescheduled for one of the few remaining cards of 2022.
