UFC 281: Dustin Poirier submits Michael Chandler in wild war (Video)
An absolutely wild and exciting fight ends with Dustin Poirier scoring a submission of Michael Chandler at UFC 281.
There was plenty of excitement in the lead-up to the lightweight contenders’ showdown between former title challengers Dustin Poirier and Michael Chandler at UFC 281.
The fight certainly lived up to the hype, as the Fight of the Night contender ended with a third-round submission win for Poirier.
The strength came early with a couple of low kicks from Chandler, whose first takedown attempt was quickly swept off by Poirier. Chandler pressured Poirier to the cage wall about a couple of minutes in with a small flurry, with Poirier attempting to answer. Poirier wasn’t that successful but managed to check Chandler’s foot, causing some swelling, and causing a small cut on Chandler’s face.

Chandler stunned Poirier with another flurry about three minutes in and scored a takedown, attempting to lock Poirier in a crucifix. Poirier got back to his feet, but Chandler got scored a suplex, only for Poirier to quickly get back up. With Chandler tired and battered in the last minute, Poirier stunned Chandler and nearly scored a finish.
Chandler scored another takedown at the start of round two, but about a minute later, Poirier threatened a triangle choke. Chandler, however, was able to get to Poirier’s back and looked for a rear-naked choke. Chandler didn’t get it, but stayed in top control throughout the rest of the second round, landing several hard ground-and-pound shots in the timeframe.
After about a minute into the final round, Chandler went for a big slam on Poirier, only for Poirier to roll through and get on top to Chandler’s back. Poirier then managed to lock in the choke and score the tapout.
