Strawweight championship implications could be riding on the line in the UFC Vegas 64 main event bout between Marina Rodriguez and Amanda Lemos.
With the two seated No. 3 and No. 7, respectively, in the UFC’s strawweight rankings, the winner of tonight’s bout will put themselves one step closer to a title shot. Perhaps in the case of Rodriguez, a major victory tonight might even land her the next title shot — especially if Carla Esparza retains the title against Weili Zhang in New York next week at UFC 281.
Rodriguez, who has lost just one of her 19 pro fights thus far, enters this main event on a four-fight win streak that began at the start of 2021. Her victories from this point have included a TKO of Amanda Ribas and decision wins over Michelle Waterson-Gomez, Mackenzie Dern and Yan Xiaonan — the latest of which came at UFC 272 in March.
Lemos has lost just two of her 15 pro fights thus far. She entered 2022 on a five-fight win streak that included three finishes and a split-decision win over Angela Hill, but that was snapped at the hands of Jessica Andrade in April. Lemos got back in the win column in July, scoring a second-round submission of Waterson-Gomez.
The co-main event will see Neil Magny, ranked No. 13 at welterweight, look to bounce back from a June loss when he takes on Daniel Rodriguez. The No. 14-ranked Rodriguez, who is 17-2 and has won four straight, makes a fairly quick turnaround after his controversial split decision win over Li Jingliang at UFC 279 in September.
