Needing a win to maintain his spot in the upper echelon of the UFC‘s bantamweight division, Cory Sandhagen delivered, defeating Song Yadong via doctor’s stoppage TKO after four rounds.

Sandhagen spent a portion of the first round attempting to get inside on Yadong and get a takedown, but to no avail. Yadong nailed a couple of hard shots on Sandhagen before stuffing a third Sandhagen takedown attempt and getting into top position. After shaking Yadong off his back, Sandhagen worked quick strikes on Yadong in the first round’s final minute, but Yadong continued to land flush.
Yadong backed Sandhagen up early in the second round, and he got up quickly from a Sandhagen takedown attempt. Yadong suffered a cut around his left eye, however, on an elbow by Sandhagen. Sandhagen pinned Yadong against the cage and the ensuing dirty boxing continued to damage the cut.
Sandhagen failed at an eighth takedown early in the third round, but he continued to bring better pressure and land better shots, targeting the head and worsening the cut on Yadong.
As Sandhagen continued to come forward in the fourth, Yadong took Sandhagen’s leg out, scoring a takedown and getting right into top position. But Sandhagen once again continued to bring damage, forcing the doctor to stop the fight before the fifth round could commence.
