UFC Vegas 60: Gillian Robertson is the fighter to watch
Gillian Robertson looks to get back on track at UFC Vegas 60.
UFC Vegas 60 is set for Saturday with an important bantamweight fight at the top of the card. Cory Sandhagen and Song Yadong are both looking to make their claim for a title shot in the deep 135-pound division. While they compete in the main event, there are many other key fights across the rest of the card.
One such is Gillian Robertson taking on Mariya Agapova, where Robertson needs a win if she’s going to keep her spot on the UFC roster.
Robertson earned her way into the UFC in 2017, as she was one of the top prospects to come out of The Ultimate Fighter house at the time. She got off to a quick start, picking up two wins in her first two Octagon appearances. But after that early success, she struggled to maintain momentum for sustained periods of time.
Where Robertson struggles is when it’s time to take on other women near the top of divisional rankings. Since 2019, four of her five losses have come to title contender hopefuls like Maycee Barber and Miranda Maverick, plus others. She’s dropped three of her last four, with her last appearance being a defeat at the hands of JJ Aldrich.
Mariya Agapova needs a win as bad as Gillian Robertson
Mariya Agapova is the woman standing in her way and looking to regain some of her own success as well. She last competed at UFC 272 where she was defeated by Maryna Moroz. Agapova joined the UFC back in 2020 after suffering a defeat by Tracy Cortez on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2019. She’s exchanged wins for losses, going 2-2 during that run. Just like Robertson, Agapova is fighting for her spot on the roster and needs a victory to make the decision much easier for UFC leadership.
