As expected, Conor McGregor had to respond to comments made by Nate Diaz following his win over Tony Ferguson at UFC 279.

Once Nate Diaz mentioned Conor McGregor’s name in his post-fight promo at UFC 279, you had to know the man known as “The Notorious” was going to fire back.

Diaz scored a fourth-round submission win over Tony Ferguson in the main event of UFC 279, a fight made just 24 hours prior due to a massive shaking up of the card.

The fight marked the final one on Diaz’s contract, and as promised in the lead-up to this fight, it appears it will be the last time Diaz competes in the Octagon — or at least for now.

Diaz added that he will be looking to “take over another sport” and show fighters how it’s done — a hint that he might jump to boxing and maybe take a long-rumored showdown with Jake Paul.

Conor McGregor fires back at Nate Diaz following UFC 279: ‘You are nothing without me’

Of course, Diaz wouldn’t be the first UFC fighter to try his hand at boxing; Conor McGregor fought Floyd Mayweather five years ago. But Diaz said he’ll be the first to show fighters how it’s done because “Conor McGregor couldn’t do it.”

The former two-division UFC champ fired back on social media.

McGregor ultimately lost the fight against Mayweather via 10th-round TKO, but the fight saw McGregor earn over $100 million pay and the event drew second-highest pay-per-view buyrate in boxing history.

The rivalry between Diaz and McGregor goes back to the end of 2015, with the two facing off in two major bouts during 2016. Diaz upset McGregor at UFC 196 before McGregor earned revenge at UFC 202. UFC 202 ended up being the most bought event in UFC history up until 2018’s UFC 229.
