UFC Paris: Who is Ailin Perez?
By Alec Arritola
At 27 years old, Ailin Perez is ready to make her Octagon debut at UFC Paris.
It has only been four years since her first amateur MMA fight, but on Saturday, Sept. 3, Argentinian fighter Ailin Perez will make her UFC debut to kick off the promotion’s first-ever event in France.
“Fiona” Luciana Perez (7-1) has drawn much attention in Argentina’s WMMA scene, amassing a virtually undefeated record, as her only loss came by disqualification via an illegal knee in a fight that she was dominating. In her most recent bout, she defeated Stephanie “La Torita” Bragayrac, to become the Samurai Fight House bantamweight champion.
According to Tapology, Perez is ranked as Argentina’s No. 2 pound-for-pound best, and Latin America’s No. 3-ranked pound-for-pound contender. Five of her seven wins ended inside the distance, with four knockouts and one submission victory.
Ailin Perez is moving up a weight class to face Stephanie Egger at UFC Paris.
Perez has previously fought at bantamweight; however, she will be moving up to featherweight to face Swiss fighter Stephanie Egger (7-3) in the opening bout of the UFC Paris preliminary card. The 34-year-old Egger is 2-2 in the UFC, with losses to Tracy Cortez and Mayra Bueno Silva.
Though Perez is a moderate underdog at +215, she is a promising prospect to defeat Egger, who is coming off a loss just one month ago at UFC Vegas 59: Thiago Santos vs. Jamahal Hill.
If Perez can pull off the upset, fight fans will likely be treated to her signature post-fight twerking, as Perez is an avid lover of dance and often posts her dancing videos on social media.
