UFC 278: Marcin Tybura beats Alexander Romanov by majority decision in UFC 278 featured prelim.
Marcin Tybura has won a gritty majority decision (29-28, 29-28, and 28-28) against the previously undefeated Alexander Romanov. ‘King Kong’ came out aggressively and slammed Tybura several times in the first round before ultimately gassing out.
Romanov managed to absorb zero strikes while dominating the first round. Tybura used his veteran experience and stayed calm going into the second round. Romanov started to gas out, and Tybura took advantage in the last ten minutes.
Romanov still had a chance for a draw with a potential 10-8 in the first round, but the judges’ awarded Tybura with the win. Tybura bounces back from a loss in his last fight to Alexander Volkov. Romanov is currently ranked no.13, and Tybura is no.11, which should push him into the top 10 with the win on the UFC 278 ESPN+ featured prelim.
UFC 278: Marcin Tybura uses experience to get past Alexander Romanov
Tybura’s experience seemed to be the difference maker here at UFC 278. Romanov has only gone to a decision once in his career, which was a technical split decision against Juan Espino. Meanwhile, Tybura has gone to decision five out of his last six fights.
Romanov looked like he was about to dominate his way to a victory, but his conditioning didn’t hold up. Tybura’s ability to remain calm and not overuse his energy made him the fresher fighter in the second half.
Despite Romanov suffering his first loss, he will be able to learn from this experience. At 31 years old, ‘King Kong’ is young for a heavyweight with plenty of potential to bounce back. On the contrary, Tybura is ready for his next challenge.
