Dana White’s Contender Series Week 3 faces a tough task after the flurry of finishes and contracts were awarded in week 2. Flyweight prospect, “Concrete” Clayton Carpenter will put his career to the test by attempting to showcase a finish to the UFC brass and earn a spot in one of the most exciting divisions in the UFC.
Carpenter maintains an undefeated record of 5-0, with four finishes, and will face off against Edgar Cháirez (8-3) on Tuesday, Aug., 9. The flyweight matchup is scheduled to be the 2nd fight on the card.
The style this fighter has shown to deliver is one of excitement with slick jiu-jitsu and the possibility of another head kick knockout to add to his resume. The 26-year-old is approximately three years into his pro career and fights out of Arizona but according to his Instagram bio he shares Mexican and Irish descent.
Clayton Carpenter will prove he belongs with the best in the world
The flyweight prospect recently fought this past December for the LFA promotion and brutally defeated a game opponent in 13 seconds. Carpenter trains out of the MMA Lab gym with the likes of Benson Henderson, Jared Cannonier, Drakkar Klose, Cortney Casey, and Mario Bautista.
Carpenter has defeated moderate competition with opponents’ records that total for 10-8. The Mexican prospect, Cháirez, will challenge with twice as much experience and an opponent’s record of 38-18. The challenger’s 2 out of 3 losses have come by way of submission.
The current betting odds favor Carpenter at (-285) while his opponent is the underdog at (+240). Given the finishing rate is at 80%, the Arizona native is 2nd biggest favorite on the card.
