MMA fighter Joel Bauman blames a couple of outbreaks of herpes for a loss earlier this year.

Joel Bauman has gone viral following his victory over Reese Forest at Fury FC 61 on May 8, but it wasn’t for anything he did during the MMA fight.

Instead, all of Bauman’s attention comes from a post-fight promo where he was explaining how different he felt compared to a fight earlier this year.

In February, Bauman competed on FAC 12: Lookin’ for a Fight, where he submitted in two rounds by recent UFC debutant Josh Fremd.

Following the win over Forest, Bauman explained that he was dealing with a variety of things that took his eye off the ball when facing Fremd — including an admission that he dealt with two outbreaks of herpes.

Following win at Fury FC 61, MMA fighter Joel Bauman admits he battled herpes before previous fight

“Last fight I was tired, I was exhausted. I’m about to launch this NFT that’s going to change the fight game,” Bauman said. “And I put in 30 all-nighters before that fight. I had herpes before that fight; two outbreaks in the span of a week. I’m here, I’m healthy, let’s go, whatever. It doesn’t matter. I’ll fight”

The fight with Fremd also may have proven a little costly, too, as UFC President Dana White was present for that event. Fremd earned a UFC deal with his victory over Bauman on that February evening.

Fremd recently made his UFC debut at UFC 273, dropping a decision to Anthony Hernandez. Fremd will make his second Octagon appearance on July 9, taking on The Ultimate Fighter season 29 participant Tresean Gore.

Bauman is now 5-2 (1 no-contest) in his professional MMA career, which also includes bouts in Bellator and LFA.
