Daniel Cormier says Conor McGregor acting like a “kid that’s misbehaving.”

An unlikely feud is brewing between two of the UFC’s former champ-champs, Conor McGregor and Daniel Cormier. Weird right? The feud seems to have started over something Cormier said about McGregor following his second-in-a-row loss to Dustin Poirier.

“Conor McGregor was mad because I said it was a cry for help his behavior,” Cormier told FanSided during an exclusive interview on Wednesday. “Because we’ve seen people, especially younger kids misbehave, whenever things don’t go their way. And it seems like he’s had a bit of a rough spot in his career. And he just needs some people that are close to him to kind of guide him back in the right direction. That’s really it. I wasn’t being negative when I said that his attention was a cry for help. But I think he took it in that way. And now he’s like, again, like a kid that’s misbehaving.”

Ironically just minutes after Cormier spoke with FanSided McGregor tweeted again, never saying Cormier’s name, but the target was clear.

“Your back situations just mental too,” McGregor wrote in a since deleted tweet. “Your weight and way of life is abysmal. And now drunk at work the day before you commentate a McGregor event? Pitiful. Congrats Jon on his head kick KO anniversary over you. Good always defeats evil? Wasn’t sure you were evil. Fakes.”

Conor McGregor also beefed with Cormier’s friend Khabib Nurmagomedov

McGregor has had a long-standing beef with former opponent, Khabib Nurmagomedov, who showed support for Poirier when he defeated McGregor. Cormier and Nurmagomedov are good friends. Perhaps that’s where some of McGregor’s angst is coming from.

“The reality is, Conor McGregor should not be worried about me, right?” Cormier laughed. “He should worry about those guys that are in there beating him every time. That’s what you worry about. You can’t fight me. All him and I can do is speak words to each other because he could never fight me. I’m heavyweight or light heavyweight. He’s a 155 pounder. Worry about the Dustin Poirier’s of the world, the Khabib Nurmagomedov’s, the Nate Diaz’s, those guys, the guy that you’re competing against.”

As a UFC commentator, its Cormier’s job to voice his thoughts about the fight scene. And Cormier isn’t going to apologize for what he’s said.

“I’m doing my job, and maybe take some of that advice to heart and really take a look within yourself instead of doing exactly and displaying the same behavior that made the people make the statement in the first place. And that’s it.”

At one time McGregor was the top of the top, unbeatable in many fighter’s eyes. Cormier doesn’t think we’ll ever see that same McGregor again.

“I don’t know if he’ll ever be the guy that we saw back then and I don’t even know if that’s an indication of who he is,” Cormier said. “I just think the game just continues to evolve. And the guys now are just getting better. And he can’t just knock them out anymore. You know, Dustin Poirier has no fear. So you lock them in there over and over again, the vast majority of time Dustin Poirier is going to win. And you saw him in the last fight right? Dustin hit him a couple times then Conor started wrestling. It’s like Dustin has no fear of him. Khabib has no fear of Conor McGregor. It’s like that intrigue is kind of gone now. So he’s gonna have to do something spectacular to build that Boogeyman type of feel that he gave those guys before.”
