UFC 262: Andre Muniz snapped Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza’s arm.
Andre Muniz defeated Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza via submission (arm-bar), Round 2 – 3:59 at UFC 262 on Saturday, May 15, 2021, live from the Toyota Center in Houston, TX.
“I’m a fan of Jacare since I was a kid. He’s my idol, I hope he’s good. I’m here to stay, I deserve a top-15 now. I heard it snap. I let go, not only out of respect, I’m from jiu-jitsu I knew I could hurt it even more if I didn’t let it go,” said Muniz
The finish came in the second round as Souza attempted to get back to his feet, Muniz jumped on Souza’s back. Muniz fell forward and appeared to overshoot. However, in the struggle, Souza’s right arm was trapped under the body of Muniz, who applied an arm-bar. With the pressure applied, Souza was unable to escape, going from a standing position to his knees. Souza tapped out immediately. Replayed showed Souza’s arm-twist and appear to break, with a loud popping sound audible on the broadcast.
Souza entered UFC 262 in desperate need of a victory. The Brazilian had lost his previous three fights and five of his last seven. Souza’s last victory was at UFC 230 when he knocked out Chris Weidman on Nov. 3, 2018. The injury and fourth straight loss could signal the end for Souza, who will turn 42 in December.
Muniz entered Saturday’s fight on a six-fight winning streak. In his last fight, Muniz submitted Bartosz Fabinski with an armbar. The submission victory was Muniz’s 13th career submission. The victory over Souza is the biggest of Muniz’s career. With the highlight submission finish at UFC 262, Muniz will likely get his wish and fight a top 15 ranked middleweight in his next fight.
