UFC Vegas 16: Jack Hermansson vs. Marvin Vettori fight card.

UFC Vegas 16 finally has its main event set for this Saturday with No. 4 middleweight Jack “The Joker” Hermansson taking on No. 13 Marvin Vettori.

This card was originally scheduled to be headlined by Hermansson and fellow top-10 middleweight Darren Till, however Till was forced to pull out due to injury. Then up stepped the red-hot Kevin Holland to take his place, only to test positive for Covid-19 just a few days ago. Now on about one week’s notice Vettori will look to stake his claim as one of the top fighters at 185 lb against a tough Hermansson.

Hermansson (21-5) is coming off a slick first-round submission victory over Kelvin Gastelum in July. After a 3-2 start to his UFC tenure, Hermansson has won 5 of his last 6 bouts dating back to 2018, only losing to the heavy-handed Jared Cannonier last year. Vettori (15-4-1) also didn’t have the best start to his UFC career, compiling a 2-2-1 record in his first five outings. Following a split decision loss to current champion Israel Adesanya, Vettori has won three-straight, with his last win over Karl Roberson coming via first-round submission.

The oddsmakers actually have Vettori listed as the slight favorite at the moment despite Hermansson having the higher ranking and more experience. If Vettori can get it done on Saturday we will not only see a new contender in the weight class, but some very interesting matchups down the road.
