Deiveson Figueiredo defends title with tight guillotine of Alex Perez in the first.
Las Vegas, NV — An early scramble in the first moments of round one set Alex Perez into a dangerous position and it didn’t take long before the champion, Deiveson Figueiredo, capitalized on the position, grabbed Perez’s neck, and secured a guillotine from hell to force the tap before the halfway mark of the first round. The official time for the finish was 1:57.
“I promised my master I would do this,” Figueiredo said after the fight.
Figueiredo earned his flyweight title by defeating Joseph Benavidez in back-to-back fights. He wasn’t eligible for the title after the first win due to missing weight but was able to finally earn the honor in the rematch. Now it seems he’s found his mark on the scales and stepped into his first title defense on weight.
Perez was on a three-fight win streak holding victories over Mark De La Rosa, Jordan Espinosa and Jussier Formiga. He looked to defeat Figueiredo and become the next flyweight champion.
