Conor McGregor wants to fight Dustin Poirier for charity outside of the UFC.
It’s pretty damn clear that, despite his retirement, Conor McGregor is itching to fight and his most recent tweets indicate he doesn’t even care who he fights or what the potential purse could be. In the last few days McGregor has called out everyone from Diego Sanchez (yes, that’s right) and now he’s calling out Dustin Poirier by pulling at the fighter’s heartstrings.
“Hey bro,” McGregor tweeted in response to Poirier’s tweet. “You want to do an MMA charity fight? Zero to do with the UFC. I will donate half a mill towards your charity for it. Sell it on PPV or work a tv deal and we work out other charities that are close to my heart also. I am engaged in many. Strictly a charity ‘exhibition.'”
He would go on to tweet again writing, “December 12th in the Point Depot, Ireland. No weigh-ins. Open weight, unified rules. I will arrange all travel fare for you and family. McGregor Sports and Entertainment MMA, in association with The Good Fight Foundation. Charity Mixed Martial Arts.”
The chances of this charity bout happening is pretty slim
Even if both fighters agree to this (and that’s what appears to have happened) there are still UFC contracts to contend to and we’d imagine that neither fight will be free to go outside the promotion without the blessing of Dana White and the UFC.
So bottom line … don’t get excited yet.
We also can’t forget that just a few days ago there were reports that McGregor was negotiating a fight with Manny Pacquiao.
