Jan Blachowicz stopped Dominick Reyes in the second round to be new light heavyweight champion.
Jan Blachowicz defeated Dominick Reyes in the second round of their title fight to earn the vacant light heavyweight title.
The fight started off slowly with each man just dabbing shots but in the second round things started to heat up. With just 30 seconds left in the round, Blachowicz dropped Reyes and secured the somewhat early stoppage with just seconds remaining.
After the fight, he immediately called out the former champion, who was live-tweeting the entire fight from the comfort of his home
“Jon Jones where are you, don’t be a quitter,” Blachowicz said during his post-fight interview.
Many felt Dominick Reyes had beaten Jon Jones
Reyes fought former champion, Jon Jones, most recently and was part of a highly contested decision victory for Jones. Many fans and media feel that Reyes should have been crowned the victor earlier this year. So when it was announced that Jones would give up his light heavyweight title and move to the heavyweight division it felt right for Reyes to be one of the first men to fight for the newly vacant title.
Blachowicz earned his shot at the title after three back-to-back victories including highlight-reel KOs of two huge names – former middleweight champion Luke Rockhold and a first-round shocking KO over Corey Anderson, who many felt would be next for Jones.
