Former UFC double champ Conor McGregor has retired may have from MMA but hasn’t retired from the whiskey-making business. His Proper No. Twelve whiskey continues to be popular amongst fight fans and bars around the world. Now, the alcohol brand has branched out to bring you some ideas of ways to use Proper No. Twelve in ways you might not have thought of before.
Now, with so many people at home in quarantine, we’re having to find new ways to get creative.
Here are six recipes to pair with a steak and potatoes this summer, courtesy of Conor McGregor’s Proper No. Twelve
The Proper Whiskey Barbecue Sauce
1/2 cup Proper No. Twelve Whiskey
1/2 tsp Ground Black Pepper
1 tbsp Garlic Powder
1 tbsp Onion Powder
1/2 tbsp Salt
3 cups Ketchup
1/3 cup Cider Vinegar
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup Packed Brown Sugar
1/3 tsp Hot Pepper Sauce
Directions:
Bring it to a boil in a saucepot. Let it simmer for 20 minutes. Serve.
Proper Peppercorn Steak Sauce
2 tbsp Proper No. Twelve Irish Whiskey
1 tbsp cracked black peppercorns
1 small shallot, finely chopped
1 large clove of garlic, minced
3 tbsp butter
3/4 cup beef broth
1/2 cup heavy cream
Worcestershire sauce (optional)
Directions:
Cook steak to your liking, then remove and cover while you make the sauce.
Add peppercorns to the same pan used to cook the steak and heat for 1-2 min.
Add shallots, garlic and 1 tbsp butter. Sauté over medium heat until shallots soften.
Add Proper No. Twelve Whiskey and bring to a simmer for 1-2 minutes. Deglaze the pan by stirring with a wooden spoon, incorporating any remaining bits from the steak.
Add the beef stock and bring to high heat. Reduce the sauce by half (4-5 minutes).
Mix in heavy cream and simmer for 1-2 minutes, stirring continuously.
Remove from heat, add remaining butter and whisk for 1-2 minutes. Salt to taste. Optional: Add any juice from resting steak and a dash of Worcestershire sauce.
The Mad Mac
Gavin McMonigle, Piss & Vinegar, Philadelphia
2 oz. Proper No. Twelve Irish Whiskey
1 Part Mexican Coffee Liqueur
2 scoops Mint Chocolate ice cream
Directions:
Hard shake all ingredients in a tin with crushed ice. strain into 6 oz. Irish coffee glass and serve.
Proper Twelve Mule
2 ozs Proper No. Twelve Irish Whiskey
.5 oz lime juice
3 ozs ginger beer
Lime wedge
Directions:
Add ice to copper mug. Add Proper No. Twelve Whiskey, lime juice and ginger beer to the glass
Garnish with a lime wedge.
Mint Irish Coffee Proptail
½ ounce Proper No. Twelve Irish Whiskey
¼ ounce Brancamenta
½ ounce Kerrygold Irish Cream
1 ounce cold brew coffee
Directions:
Mix reach pop individually in mixing cups. Fill popsicle molds (silicone is best). Place in freezer for approximately 5 hours. Remove from mold and consume immediately or place in freezer bag for later.
Proper & Ginger
2 oz Proper No. Twelve Irish Whiskey
3 oz ginger ale
1 lime wedge
Directions:
Fill glass with ice
Pour Proper No. Twelve over ice
Top with ginger ale
Stir
Garnish with a lime wedge
Proper Iced Tea

0.5 oz Fresh Lemon
0.25 oz Agave
2 bar spoons Raspberry Preserves
